Boonen win's roubaix
Team Quick- Step’s king of the classics Tom Boonen showed great form today when he sprinted away from other race favorites CSC’s Fabian Cancellera and Lampre’s Alessandro Ballan to take his second victory at Paris Roubaix. Team Quick-Step and Specialized have worked very well together this year with numerous wins already season plus a great win last weekend for Stijn Devolder at the Tour of Flanders.
When asked on Saturday Tom had commented that his Specialized Roubaix was going to be the right machine for the Pave, especially after riding it on the team’s recon ride of the last 90km of the course on Friday.
“I live for these classics. People say when I don't win, that I am not in shape or whatever, but these are the most important races of the year for me. Anyone who knows me knows that. I live and train for these races and it all comes down to two days a year," Boonen said. "Today was no different for me. I always have motivation to win these races. That never changes."
Third place rider Ballan said “I am content with third place because it was clear to everyone that Boonen was the strongest today in the race, I have taken something positive out of this. I was able to stay with the strongest riders today and earn a place on the podium. It gives me confidence to know I have what it takes to come back and win here someday."
